Celebrating International Day of The Girl Child

I celebrate the girl child!

Girls are perceived as fragile, yet they fight the biggest battles ever! They light up the world and have great potential. This year’s theme, “The girl I am, the change I lead: Girls on the frontlines of crisis” speaks to me.

You knew I will come from the viewpoint of vulnerability didn’t you?

Disability doesn’t stop a girl from being a girl! Think about a fully dependent girl who goes through puberty without the capacity to manage it herself. Think about her self-esteem and self-concept. it is hard isn’t it? You will be amazed the quality of mental health girls exhibit in the face of crisis.

Think about the Chibok girls in Nigeria. Did they need to face life challenging circumstances simply because of their gender?

Do girls spend less time in the womb? Do they have lower quality of blood? Do they have inferior brain power?

Girls are change agents!

To every gild who is emerging strong from a journey of self discovery, I salute you!

To girls who are already living out their dreams, listen! You inpsire!

T o girls  in crisis, hey! do not give up. You will overcome.

To the little girl inside of me i say, keep that space I am grateful that through lifes journeys, I haven’t lost tract of the girl I was, the change I lead, the crisis i overcame, struggle with, and the GIRL I still am.

Happy International Day of the Girl child.
