March 2022 was a month of robust sensitization for Down syndrome and The Engraced Support Group and prayer initiative for Special Needs did not fail to give our best.
From Our Conveners’ Desk- Mrs. Biboara Yinkere. Please read below:
“March 2022
This was one busy month for me and the team of the Engraced Ones Prayer Support and Advocacy Initiative (a Support Group for Special Needs)
Here’s a rundown of our activities:
21 days of sensitization on social media, Primary and Secondary Schools. With over 700 children sensitized.
Publications on Print Media, Live appearances on TVC News, interviews on NTA exclusive, interviews on Armed Forces.
2 live appearances on BossFm and Armed Forces Radio.
International Parents interactive session via zoom. We participated in the Seminar organized by ‘Larger Than I Centre for Special Needs’ in Bayelsa State.
One-on-one sensitization and lots more!In all of this what was the message? Down syndrome is not a disease but a chromosomal disorder that comes from birth.
Individuals with the condition can lead meaningful lives if they are accepted and included in all activities, particularly in the playground, workplace, schools, national health care plans, and religious places of worship.
Individuals with DS will thrive if we give them the enabling environment, love, and care. Empathy is the keyword with them, not pity! Yes the celebration of WDSD is just a day but we will keep speaking unless we get the expected results.
And then we took out a little time to talk about Cerebral palsy too on March 25th to be precise. We wore GREEN for our CP warriorsOUR MOUTHS ARE STILL WIDE OPEN!!!” – Biby
