I’m lending my voice on Down syndrome awareness this year and my name is Duma. I have a son with an extra chromosome (Down syndrome).
I’m appealing to the Nigerian Government at all levels and other stakeholders ( in countries where this is not done) to embrace the pattern of education that adjusts/modifies the classroom practices meant for neurotypical children to accommodate/benefit the special needs children! That education that does not discriminate, but rather makes room for children with learning disabilities!
We want our children to be given the opportunity to thrive academically and socially so they can maximize their God-given potentials through AN INCLUSIVE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM!
Please, pause and ponder! Learning support, speech therapy, ABA(Applied behavioral analysis) occupational therapy, etc should be free for these children! Yes, you can make it happen! Yes, We can!
